What happens when laboratories and doctors suddenly speak the same language?
Imagine if laboratory results were automatically sent directly to doctors without a single manual entry and without any errors.
That was precisely the vision of one of our customers – and the starting point of an exciting journey towards complete interoperability.
Initial situation
A medical software manufacturer was facing a hurdle: the patient data generated by its software could not be transferred smoothly to laboratory information systems (LIS) and doctors' systems. Different formats and interfaces led to manual work steps – time-consuming and error-prone.
New insight
Interoperability is key: systems suddenly need to ‘speak the same language’. Standardised data formats such as HL7 (Health Level Seven) and LOINC (Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes) enable seamless, secure and automated data exchange.
Implementation
Our IT engineers developed an intelligent interface that automatically converts data into the required format and transfers it directly to laboratories and doctors – without any manual reworking.
Result
What happened? Laboratory results are now fed into patient files in real time. Doctors can make decisions faster, laboratories can work more efficiently, and patients benefit from faster care.
Summary
Interoperability is not a ‘nice-to-have’ feature, but rather the foundation of modern, connected medicine. Investing in standardised interfaces today means improving quality, efficiency and patient safety.
